About The Position

The Central Sterile Tech will utilize principles of infection control while performing duties. This role involves collecting requests for supplies, collecting and cleaning reusable articles and equipment, and facilitating the safe disposal of contaminated debris. The technician will use washer disinfector techniques and cart washer for cleaning, as well as water-termicide manual decontamination for instruments not designed to withstand heat, steam, and water exposure. Responsibilities include replacing broken or missing instruments, maintaining instrument care instructions, repackaging reusable items, assembling packs, checking for outdated supplies, and utilizing appropriate sterilization techniques. The role also involves maintaining records and tests for effective sterile processes, marking sterilized articles in a log book, changing sterilizer printouts, and using premade test packs for monitoring sterilizers. Cleaning of sterilizers, equipment, shelves, and work areas is also a key function. The technician will routinely assess the protective environment and sterilization processes, initiating corrective actions as needed. Additionally, the role includes assembling and delivering instruments, goods, and equipment for surgical services, providing decontaminated equipment and instruments for distribution, and cleaning heavily soiled IV pumps.

Requirements

  • 1 Year In Central Sterile (Preferred)
  • Certification in Central Sterile (preferred)
  • Keyboarding (Preferred)
  • Demonstrates Excellent Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes principles of infection control while performing duties.
  • Collects requests for supplies in specified areas.
  • Collects reusable articles that are dirty daily or as needed from other units in hospital.
  • Cleans all reusable articles and equipment per guidelines.
  • Facilitates safe disposal of contaminated debris.
  • Utilizes washer disinfector techniques to provide terminal decontamination of equipment and instruments designed to withstand steam, heat and water exposure. Utilizes cart washer for proper cleaning of case carts.
  • Utilizes water-termicide manual decontamination to provide terminal decontamination of instruments not designed to withstand heat, steam and water exposure.
  • Replaces broken or missing instruments or pieces to complete trays as indicated by tray count sheet and signatures.
  • Maintains appropriate instructions and care for all instruments and equipment. References online IFU's usine OneSource as needed.
  • Repackages all reusable items in proper package or wrappers, using correct sterilizer control.
  • Assembles packs for specified areas.
  • Checks for outdated supplies stored in Central Sterile and has knowledge of rotating supplies.
  • Utilizes appropriate sterilization technique to provide sterile product.
  • Maintains appropriate records and tests to assure effective sterile process.
  • Marks all articles sterilized in a log book with the date item sterilized, load number and sterilized number. If SPM is down, scans all items electronically into SPM system.
  • Changes sterilizer print out after each load and scan into SPM system.
  • Proper use of premade test pack for monitoring sterilizer.
  • Cleans sterilizers, other equipment, storage shelves and work areas in the department.
  • Routinely assesses protective environment and sterilization processes for effective function and initiates corrective actions where indicated.
  • Assembles and delivers instruments, goods and equipment required by surgical services.
  • Provides decontaminated equipment and/or in-house procedure trays and instruments for distribution to specified areas.
  • Cleans heavily soiled IV pumps that cannot be cleaned properly by EVS. Returns IV pump to location.
