About The Position

This position performs, plans, directs, and supervises all aspects of Sterile Processing Department services. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certification.
  • Current certification as a certified Central Processing Tech by a recognized certification agency.
  • Minimum of two years as a SPD Technician, SPD Technician Senior or Surgical Technologist experience and/or comparable supervisory experience.
  • Must demonstrate expert knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, inventory management & case cart management.
  • Proficient oral and written (English language) communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computers.
  • Must have effective interpersonal skills to work well with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Certified Healthcare Lead (CHL) or Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) strongly preferred but must be obtained CHL or CSPM certification within 12 months of hire as a condition of employment at UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises assigned personnel, including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, and terminations. Resolves grievances and personnel problems.
  • Performs and plans activities in all areas of the Sterile Processing Department: equipment, decontamination, processing, instrument assembly, sterilization, and cart assembly.
  • Supervises the operation and effectiveness of all equipment, taking corrective action in a timely manner.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities involving cleaning, sterilizing, inspecting, storing, and distributing sterile articles, including instrumentation and case carts to various departments and units.
  • Verifies all required documentation performed by staff, such as sterilizer printouts and BI incubator logs, and corrects staff performance as needed.
