This position performs, plans, directs, and supervises all aspects of Sterile Processing Department services. Requirements

High school diploma or GED certification.
Current certification as a certified Central Processing Tech by a recognized certification agency.
Minimum of two years as a SPD Technician, SPD Technician Senior or Surgical Technologist experience and/or comparable supervisory experience.
Must demonstrate expert knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, inventory management & case cart management.
Proficient oral and written (English language) communication skills.
Demonstrated proficiency in computers.
Must have effective interpersonal skills to work well with others.

Nice To Haves

Certification as a Certified Healthcare Lead (CHL) or Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) strongly preferred but must be obtained CHL or CSPM certification within 12 months of hire as a condition of employment at UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Responsibilities

Directs and supervises assigned personnel, including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, and terminations. Resolves grievances and personnel problems.
Performs and plans activities in all areas of the Sterile Processing Department: equipment, decontamination, processing, instrument assembly, sterilization, and cart assembly.
Supervises the operation and effectiveness of all equipment, taking corrective action in a timely manner.
Supervises and coordinates activities involving cleaning, sterilizing, inspecting, storing, and distributing sterile articles, including instrumentation and case carts to various departments and units.
Verifies all required documentation performed by staff, such as sterilizer printouts and BI incubator logs, and corrects staff performance as needed.
