About The Position

The Center Operations Supervisor is a highly organized, mission-driven professional supporting the daily operations of NVFS’ Head Start Center. This position provides operational oversight of classrooms and transportation services while coordinating volunteers and center-wide activities. This role ensures compliance, safety, and smooth day-to-day functioning of the center in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards. The Center Operations Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining quality programming and serves as backup to the Center Manager when needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; must meet state and county requirements for site administrator
  • Familiarity with Head Start regulations preferred
  • Related experience in transportation oversight preferred
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience providing direct supervision of staff strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and work with diverse staff
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Oral and written fluency in English; additional language skills always welcome
  • Digital and technical proficiency, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability.
  • Successful completion of background checks, drug screening, TB test, and physical attestation required upon hire
  • Must be able to lift a child up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to follow the Head Start guidelines for working with children
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules and policy and procedures manuals

Responsibilities

  • Monitor classrooms to ensure adherence to Head Start Performance Standards and licensing regulations.
  • Review lesson plans and classroom activities for alignment with developmental goals.
  • Support teaching staff in maintaining organized, engaging learning environments.
  • Monitor building activity to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
  • Supervise transportation staff, including Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors.
  • Ensure proper completion of vehicle safety inspections and documentation.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Oversee compliance with transportation safety regulations.
  • Support route coordination and transportation planning.
  • Coordinate field trips including logistics, transportation, permissions, and safety procedures.
  • Plan and support center-wide events and family engagement activities.
  • Ensure activities align with program goals and safety guidelines.
  • In collaboration with Volunteer Engagement team, effectively orient, train and track center volunteers.
  • Coordinate volunteer schedules to support classrooms and events.
  • Identify and fulfill staffing needs; work collaboratively with each staff member to set job and development goals; approve timesheets, leave and reimbursement requests, provide ongoing staff training to enable direct service staff to deliver client service effectively.
  • Serve as back up Center Manager as needed.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative team culture.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal Head Start, Commonwealth of Virginia and Arlington County Child Care regulations.
  • Ensure that service delivery is performed according to and within the NVFS mission and organizational values.
  • Responsible for goals and objectives of contract for programs; includes NVFS outcomes and reporting.
  • Assist with reporting, compliance documentation, audits and licensing visits as needed.
  • Act as liaison with community, civic, and business groups on behalf of Early Childhood programs; participate in appropriate community task force committees; develop and monitor public relations within the scope of Agency mission and goals.
  • Work closely with Arlington Public Schools staff to ensure positive working relationship, coordination of services, and smooth transitions for children.
