About The Position

The Veterans Cemetery Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and administration of the Veterans Cemetery. This position ensures that burial services are conducted with dignity and in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs standards while maintaining accurate cemetery records, supervising staff, managing budgets and expenditures, coordinating procurement and inventory, and preparing required reports. The Cemetery Manager oversees the maintenance of cemetery grounds, facilities, equipment, and vehicles to preserve a safe, respectful, and well-maintained environment for veterans and their families. The position also serves as the primary point of contact for burial coordination, responds to public inquiries and concerns, develops operational procedures and safety practices, and performs additional duties that support the mission and objectives of the Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Cemetery.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee all burial activities, maintain burial schedules, assist families with plot and headstone selections, prepare burial sites, and ensure all services comply with VA standards and specifications.
  • Direct and perform routine maintenance of cemetery grounds, landscaping, irrigation systems, fences, gates, parking areas, walkways, buildings, tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure a safe, respectful, and well-maintained environment.
  • Provide daily supervision of cemetery personnel, assign and prioritize work, process employee time and attendance records, develop standard operating procedures, and conduct safety training on equipment and tools.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring the annual cemetery budget, maintain expenditure records, procure supplies and equipment, obtain quotes, and manage inventories of tools, equipment, and departmental assets.
  • Maintain accurate burial, plot, headstone, and cemetery records; prepare and submit required activity and project reports; and conduct historical burial research upon request.
  • Coordinate public notices of burial services, respond to public inquiries, investigate and resolve complaints, and provide professional assistance to families, funeral homes, churches, and community partners.
  • Participate in meetings and training, coordinate preventive maintenance of departmental vehicles and equipment, and perform additional duties necessary to support the efficient operation of the Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Cemetery.
