About the position
Archer, an aerospace company based in San Jose, California, is seeking a candidate to join their team in the role of Battery Modeling Engineer. The engineer will be responsible for performing battery cell testing, developing battery models, and optimizing battery usage for aircraft design and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, with expertise in data design pipelines, battery testing, and programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, and Julia. A strong background in battery technology, numerical methods, and optimization strategies is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform day to day cell testing work with battery cyclers of Arbin and Neware and writing test protocols.
- Write and execute test plans for obtaining battery cell test data for performance and degradation modeling.
- Use MATLAB & python to build battery cell models and optimize for specific mission profiles.
- Build battery life degradation models for performance and life estimation of aircraft battery usage.
- Work together with vehicle simulation and aerodynamics engineers to best utilize the battery for vehicle design and operational optimization.
- Build battery database and support vehicle level testing data pipelines, continued data analysis feedback to improve battery models.
Requirements
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
- Skilled in data design pipelines, battery performance metrics extraction, battery testing, model development and simulation, Python, MATLAB, and Julia programming languages
- Capable of working with large battery datasets
- Knowledge of fundamental battery, numerical methods, and optimization strategies
- Completed 30 hours of Data Science-related coursework and 30 hours of Match/model-related coursework
- OR
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
- 3 years of experience building data pipelines
