About The Position

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) / Dietary Manager to oversee the daily operations of our dietary department. This position is responsible for ensuring that residents receive safe, nutritious, appetizing meals that meet their individual dietary needs, physician orders, and applicable regulatory standards. The Dietary Manager will lead and support the dietary team, oversee food preparation and service, manage department operations and expenses, and work collaboratively with nursing, activities, and other departments to promote resident satisfaction and quality of care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Dietary Manager/Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) program meeting applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing dietary department preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of PointClickCare (PCC) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, therapeutic diets, and long-term care dietary practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with residents, families, staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Must maintain all required continuing education and applicable credentials/licensure.
  • Must remain in good standing with the applicable Department of Public Health License and Certification Division.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and participate in the preparation and service of safe, nutritious, and appetizing meals.
  • Ensure meals meet prescribed dietary requirements, physician orders, and approved menus.
  • Maintain food quality, portion control, and proper meal presentation.
  • Manage the dietary department budget, control costs, and order food and supplies as needed.
  • Plan and assist with special meals for holidays, celebrations, and facility events.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate dietary staff.
  • Address employee performance concerns and administer disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Prepare staff schedules and ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
  • Ensure proper food storage, handling, sanitation, and safety practices in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Process new diet orders and changes while maintaining accurate diet cards and resident records.
  • Monitor resident food preferences, allergies, and nutritional risks.
  • Complete required monthly nutritional notes and documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food storage areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the dietary department to ensure cleanliness, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate dietary services with nursing, activities, and other departments.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings.
  • Provide in-service education and ongoing training for dietary staff.
  • Investigate workplace injuries and implement appropriate corrective actions or retraining.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain department security and protect the confidentiality of resident information.
  • Visit residents to assess nutritional needs, discuss food preferences, explain diets, and promote resident satisfaction.
  • Communicate menu changes to the Registered Dietitian and ensure appropriate documentation.
  • Support a positive, respectful, and team-oriented environment within the dietary department.
