About The Position

Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks equipped with front-, side-, or rear-end load-lift attachments, depending on the business line and vehicle. They transport materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Duties may include collecting commercial or residential waste and recyclable materials, or preparing, loading, and transporting large mobile open-top and compactor containers from customer locations. The work involves navigating congested roads, driveways, alleyways, and lots; some routes may include tight overhead environments. Skilled backing maneuvers are essential. Drivers must leave customer locations clean and free of debris and operate vehicles and equipment safely and reliably. This is a full-time, Monday-through-Friday day-shift position. Drivers are home daily, at night, and on weekends. The role is designated safety-sensitive and requires compliance with safety rules and protocols, with drug and alcohol testing as described in the posting. The advertised new-hire sign-on bonus is $5,000. The expected base pay range is $22.00–$31.00; the offer may depend on experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.

Requirements

At least one year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or one year of equivalent military driving within the last seven years.
At least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
Successfully complete pre-employment screening, including a drug screen and physical.
Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air-brake endorsement, or CDL Class B with an air-brake endorsement.
Strictly comply with applicable safety rules and protocols; the position may require drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment, post-incident, reasonable-suspicion, and random testing.

Responsibilities

Operate vehicles in accordance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA and DOT requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and document them using the standard Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR).
Immediately report unsafe situations and service-related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
Attend and participate in scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
Work with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
Notify the Operations Manager of incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service, or potential safety hazards.
Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
Empty all receptacles completely and leave customer locations clean and free of debris.
Follow assigned routes and complete end-of-day documentation and check-out procedures.
Perform duties as scheduled by the Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Collect and transport waste or recyclable materials and, depending on the route, prepare, load, and transport large containers to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities.
