About The Position

The CDL Trainer provides both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to students pursuing their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Responsibilities include teaching topics such as vehicle operation, safety regulations, vehicle systems, trip planning, and driver responsibilities; assessing student performance; and providing advising and support to help students successfully meet licensing and career goals. The trainer also provides hands-on training in vehicle operation, backing, parking, and road driving while evaluating student competency and preparing students for CDL skills testing and licensure. In addition to instructions, the CDL Trainer is responsible for maintaining a safe and effective training environment through routine inspection of training vehicles and equipment, coordination of maintenance and repairs, and oversight of the training yard to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational readiness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be 22 years of age or older
  • Valid State of Maine Class A license
  • Approval through the College’s vehicle insurance policy to drive college-owned vehicles
  • At least 6 years’ experience as a licensed operator
  • 2+ years’ experience driving a commercial vehicle requiring a CDL A
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance
  • Basic computer skills
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • 10+ years’ experience driving a commercial motor vehicle requiring a CDL A
