About The Position

The CDL Coordinator provides both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to students pursuing their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Responsibilities include teaching topics such as vehicle operation, safety regulations, vehicle systems, trip planning, and driver responsibilities; assessing student performance; and providing advising and support to help students successfully meet licensing and career goals. The Coordinator also provides hands-on training in vehicle operation, backing, parking, and road driving while evaluating student competency and preparing students for CDL skills testing and licensure. In addition to instruction, the CDL Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a safe and effective training environment through routine inspection of training vehicles and equipment, coordination of maintenance and repairs, and oversight of the training yard to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational readiness. The CDL Coordinator also manages key program operations, including scheduling, recordkeeping, regulatory compliance, coordinates medical testing, and program development. The role also works closely with industry employers to support recruitment and job placement efforts while ensuring training vehicles, equipment, and facilities are maintained in a safe and effective operating condition.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be 22 years of age or older
  • Valid State of Maine Class A license
  • Approval through the College’s vehicle insurance policy to drive college-owned vehicles
  • Valid State of Maine CDL Instructor license
