About The Position

Rear Load Truck Drivers service customers by collecting and hauling waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. They work many different routes in various areas and provide removal services safely and compliantly. The role involves frequent entry and exit from the truck, moving containers, cleaning the vehicle and work area, maintaining route and inspection logs, and interacting professionally with customers and colleagues. Drivers may deliver containers, manually load bulk items, and operate other types of trucks as needed. This position does not manage employees.

Requirements

At least a valid Class B CDL.
A valid DOT Medical Card, or the ability to obtain one prior to hire.
At least 19 years of age.
No more than three moving violations within the last two years.
No DUI or OVI convictions within the last five years, or two within the last ten years.
Ability to read and understand a map.
Good written and verbal communication skills for professional communication with internal and external customers.
Excellent truck driving and maneuvering skills.
Ability to drive while pulling a trailer.
Ability to read and speak English well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds rarely.
Ability to work continuously outdoors in changing temperatures and wet or humid conditions, and in areas with dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl frequently; climb or balance frequently; and sit, stand, or walk frequently.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed, and overtime, weekends, or holidays.
Ability to travel between offices as required.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Valid driver's license, if applicable.
Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.

Nice To Haves

General knowledge of truck mechanics.
One to two years of CDL truck driving experience.
Waste industry experience.

Responsibilities

Provide safe, compliant trash or recycling removal by emptying containers into the truck and hauling materials to a disposal site.
Routinely enter and exit the truck, approximately 300–600 times per day depending on the assigned route.
Pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings as needed.
Replace receptacles neatly at the curb or designated area.
Clean up waste spills and overflows.
Maintain and update route and driver log sheets.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete logs.
Interact professionally with internal and external customers and provide excellent customer service.
Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body and keep the truck cab and assigned truck clean.
Deliver trash or recycling containers as needed.
Manually load bulk items as needed.
Operate other types of trucks as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
