About The Position

Rear Load Truck Drivers service customers by collecting and hauling waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. Drivers may be assigned to different routes in various areas and are responsible for completing their work safely and in compliance with applicable requirements while providing professional customer service. The position involves frequent entry and exit from the truck, handling containers and bulk items, maintaining the assigned truck, completing route and inspection records, and working outdoors in varied conditions. The role does not manage employees.

Requirements

At least a valid Class B CDL.
A valid DOT Medical Card, or ability to obtain one before hire.
At least 19 years of age.
No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
No DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years, or 2 in the last 10 years.
Ability to read and understand a map.
Good written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
Excellent truck driving and maneuvering skills.
Ability to drive while pulling a trailer.
Ability to read and speak English well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Valid driver’s license, if applicable.
Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
Ability to travel between offices as required.
Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 lbs; rarely lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs.
Work continuously outdoors in changing temperatures and wet or humid conditions, and in areas with dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.
Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; frequently climb and/or balance; and frequently sit, stand, or walk.

Nice To Haves

General knowledge of truck mechanics.
1–2 years of CDL truck driving experience.
Waste industry experience.

Responsibilities

Provide safe, compliant trash or recycling removal by emptying containers into the truck and hauling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant.
Routinely enter and exit the truck, approximately 300–600 times per day depending on the route.
Pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings as needed.
Return receptacles neatly to the curb or designated area.
Clean up waste spills and overflows.
Maintain and update route and driver log sheets.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete logs.
Interact professionally with internal and external customers and provide excellent customer service.
Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body, and keep the truck cab clean.
Deliver trash or recycling containers as needed.
Manually load bulk items as needed.
Maintain the cleanliness of the assigned truck.
Operate other types of trucks as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
