About The Position

South Louisiana Community College is seeking a CDL Instructor to join the Workforce & Economic Development and Continuing Education department, specifically within the Maritime & Continuing Education sub-department. This is an unclassified, 12-month faculty appointment. The instructor will be responsible for conducting theoretical and technical training classes for commercial vehicles, covering both Class A and B Commercial Motor Vehicles. This includes presenting formal class training, lab work, policy and procedure training in compliance with regulations, and hands-on training in advanced applications, vehicle inspection, skill maneuvers, and road driving skills. The role also involves institutional support duties such as maintaining office hours, preparing course materials, evaluating student progress, keeping records, utilizing technology for administrative tasks, maintaining student discipline, and fulfilling professional assignments according to the college calendar.

Requirements

  • Must a valid CDL Class A license in good standing and good driving record.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of Class A CDL driving experience
  • Must be able to properly demonstrate how to safely operate a CMV and perform safety checks
  • Basic Knowledge of CMV maintenance
  • Basic Knowledge of FMSCR (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Part 325 Through 399).
  • Able to comply with Department of Transportation medical requirement (CFR Part 40)
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Applications Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Willing to work in the evening and weeks and a variety of campuses
  • Perform other duties and needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts theoretical and technical training classes for commercial vehicles, providing theory, simulation, and practical applications for classes in A and B Commercial Motor Vehicles.
  • Uses established training materials to present formal class training exercises and lab work to students.
  • Provides training in policy, procedures in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Use established training materials to present training exercises and practice in preparing students to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Provides hands-on training in advanced applications, training and testing preparations in vehicle inspection, skill maneuvers, and road driving skills.
  • Maintain office hours for student consultations.
  • Preparing and providing course syllabi and instructional material to students.
  • Evaluating and reviewing students' progress in attaining goals and objectives.
  • Keeping appropriate records of testing and grading, as per collage standards
  • Utilizing technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, communicate with others and facilitate learning.
  • Maintain student discipline through effective classroom management.
  • Attaining, maintaining and reviewing program certification requirements as appropriate.
  • Fulfilling professional assignments in accordance with South Louisiana Community College Calendar and contractual obligations.
