About The Position

The CDL Aerial Laborer performs manual labor and operates various tools and equipment to construct, maintain, and repair utility infrastructure, primarily working at heights from aerial lifts. This role is crucial for the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground utility lines, including power and communication systems. The job involves operating aerial lifts (bucket trucks) safely and efficiently, digging trenches, loading and unloading materials, setting poles, stringing conductor wires, and climbing poles as required. A strong commitment to safety, including the use of appropriate PPE, is essential. The position also requires performing vehicle inspections, reporting equipment issues, and communicating effectively with the crew and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 75 lbs), climb, stoop, bend, and work in confined spaces.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all safety protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of utility construction practices and terminology.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime as needed.
  • All positions require participation in federally compliant PHMSA or FMSCA drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment and random screenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating aerial lifts/bucket trucks is preferred.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground utility lines, including power and communication systems.
  • Operate aerial lifts (bucket trucks) safely and efficiently to perform work at elevated heights.
  • Dig trenches, holes, and foundations using hand tools or power equipment.
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment from trucks.
  • Set poles, anchor guys, and install cross-arms and insulators.
  • String and sag conductor wires, ensuring proper tension and clearance.
  • Climb poles as required to perform duties such as framing, tying in, and transferring lines.
  • Work with various hand tools and power tools safely and effectively (e.g., drills, saws, wrenches, impact drivers).
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and company vehicles.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards promptly.
