The CDL-A Local Intermodal Driver operates local and regional intermodal routes from the Fort Wayne, Indiana terminal. Drivers check in at the terminal each day to receive dispatch and a truck, and run between Fort Wayne and Chicago as well as local hauls within a 100-mile zone, with routes extending up to a 175-mile radius overall. Freight handling varies by shift: day shifts are 60% drop-and-hook and 40% live load-unload; night shifts are 80% drop-and-hook and 20% live load-unload. Average weekly earnings are $1,535–$1,690, corresponding to annual gross pay of $80,000–$88,000. Compensation includes mileage pay of $0.52–$0.62 per mile, plus stated payments for live loads, drop-and-hook, out-of-route drops, rail delays, detention, and hazmat loads. A limited-time $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered. Two schedules are available: Monday through Friday, starting at 10:00 PM, or Sunday through Thursday, starting at 3:00 AM. Shifts are 11 hours, and drivers have daily home time. Drivers use automatic-only day-cab trucks set up for slip-seating; tractors remain at the yard on days off. Pets and riders are not allowed in the cab. Applicants need at least nine months of verifiable Class-A tractor-trailer seat time. A Hazmat endorsement is not required on the first day but must be obtained within 60 days, with the company covering the full cost.
