This entry-level CDL-A driving role provides 4 to 6 weeks of on-road training with an experienced driver trainer, paying $850 per week during training. After the trainer signs off, drivers receive their own truck and are guaranteed $1,000 per week for the first 3 months of solo driving. Drivers haul dry van freight along the East Coast, with loads staying in the region rather than crossing the country. Routes are home every two weeks and average about 2,500 miles per week, mostly drop and hook. Average weekly gross pay is $1,200 to $1,500. Starting pay is $0.55 per mile, with an additional $0.01 per mile for each year of experience, up to $0.65 per mile, plus $15 stop pay and a performance bonus plan. Medical, dental, and vision coverage are available after 30 days. The position also offers a 401(k) with company match and paid time off. Orientation pay is $300, and travel to orientation is covered. Riders and pets are allowed after training is complete.
