About The Position

Smithfield Foods is seeking motivated individuals to join their team as CDL A Drivers for Market Haul (Nights). This role involves a 5-7 week training program for drivers with a CDL class A and at least 1 year of commercial driving experience. The primary focus is on safely transporting and delivering feed, with animal welfare as the utmost concern, while complying with all DOT rules and regulations. Requirements

  • Current Class A CDL.
  • 1 year of commercial driving experience preferred.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical card upon hire.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (nights, weekends, and holidays).

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED, preferred.
  • CDL training program for Drivers with a CDL class A with 1 year of commercial driving experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete a 5-7 week training program.
  • Follow required and recommended safety procedures while driving, delivering feed, or loading and unloading, with animal welfare being the foremost concern.
  • Comply with all DOT rules and regulations.
  • Report all accidents promptly through proper authorities.
  • Comply with all rules set forth by the receiving agent.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Hook up trailer to tractor, including backing under the trailer, raising landing gear, and hooking up airlines.
  • Operate landing gear (rolling up and down) which may require significant physical effort.
  • Operate a manual transmission tractor.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections of equipment, which may involve climbing into the engine area, bending, stooping, and crawling.
  • Open and close trailer gates and doors to load and unload animals.
  • Enter and exit the cab in tight spaces.
  • Maneuver the vehicle, potentially leaning out of the window to check blind spots and mirrors.
  • Report problems encountered on the farm or designated plant through the swine movement ticket or farm condition report.
  • Understand and follow the Smithfield emergency notification process.
