About The Position

This position is for ten part-time (maximum of 24 hours per week) CCE Student Technical Project Assistants for the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU). The role is within the Sustainable, Healthy, and Resilient Buildings Lab, led by Dr. Parichehr Salimifard. The lab's mission is to improve public health and well-being by making environments healthier, more sustainable, and resilient. Research areas include fluid dynamics, aerosol science, energy efficiency, sustainability, environmental health, and indoor environmental quality, with a focus on controlling and mitigating exposure to indoor contaminants, allergens, and virus-carrier particles. Specific research includes aerosol dynamics, particle transport, deposition, resuspension, aerosol sensing, size characterization, and emergent contributions in airborne infectious disease and wildfire smoke exposure mitigation and control.

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard (High School student: 6 credit hours per term; Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term; Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term; Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term; Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term).
  • Must successfully complete a Criminal History Check.
  • Must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence.
  • Must be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standards.
  • Must self-report convictions.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Engineering or other STEM majors.
  • Strong background in programming.
  • Strong background in sensor data-acquisition systems.
  • Strong programming skills and experience with any of R/MATLAB/Python/C++.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in lab and/or field research activities.
  • Assist with equipment setup.
  • Assist with data collection and analysis.
  • Assist with lab maintenance.
  • Drive OSU Motor Pool vehicles to pick up/drop off materials, tools and models from other facilities and stores, as needed.
  • Travel in state and out of state for assisting with field research projects, as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the faculty supervisor.
  • Potentially work outside of normal hours for sample collection.
