About The Position

The CAVES Systems team is responsible for the development, qualification, integration, testing, delivery, and installation support of contractor developed and furnished SONAR arrays across multiple classes of submarines including VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class. System Engineering efforts related to contractor furnished SONAR systems include the Large Vertical Array (LVA), Bow Conformal Array (BCA), Integrated Search and Survey (ISS), as well as various developmental systems and Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) SONAR sensors, arrays, and components. The candidate will be required to interface with NAVSEA, government agencies, subcontractors, and other Electric Boat discipline areas. Successful applicant will be required to assist in the System Engineering efforts ranging from initial system design through development, hardware/software integration, component qualification, test, construction support, delivery, and post-delivery support to include analysis and resolution of fleet identified problems, assessment of obsolescence issues, and identification of components for technical refresh. In addition to supporting new development efforts, the candidate will be required to support the successful installation and test of SONAR systems at QP, EB Groton, and Newport News Shipbuilding shipyards. This position will require that the engineer perform technology investigations, trade-studies, identify/resolve risks, identify opportunities for cost reductions, and validate methods to ensure producible end products. Strong organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills and the ability to function independently are required. Project management experience is preferred. Candidates must be highly motivated team player.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, including Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Industrial, Aerospace, or Biomedical
  • 5+ years’ post-graduate professional engineering experience
  • Strong organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to function independently
  • Highly motivated team player

Nice To Haves

  • A Master of Science degree in Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering tasks/projects
  • Experience and/or working knowledge of US SSN/SSBN SONAR Systems including Bow Arrays and large flank arrays (CAVES, LWWAA, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of SONAR design theory, including underwater sound propagation and acoustics, and SONAR operation(s)
  • Project management experience
