About The Position

Cavalier Marching Band student videographers are responsible for attending gameday rehearsals and performances, including pregame shows, halftime shows, and two quarters of the football game in Section 104. They will collaborate to create field show videos using audio and video recordings from multiple sources for publication on the Band’s YouTube Channel and Instagram account. This role offers educational value, allowing students to learn and improve in videography, interview, storytelling, marketing, communication, editing, and interpersonal skills. The position is overseen by the Director of Bands and involves collaboration with the CMB’s Social Media Committee, CMB Visual Media Crew, and additional band directors. The work environment is described as collaborative, creative, and dynamic.

Requirements

  • Strong videographer skills/experience, including video editing software packages.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Able to work creatively while staying on schedule.
  • Interest in the arts and telling the stories of student musicians in the Cavalier Marching Band.
  • Interest in learning more about people.
  • Must be a UVA Undergraduate student.
  • Resume including a link to past videography or photography work and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Gameday rehearsal video recording: recording short, up-close clips of members during gameday rehearsal at Carr’s Hill Field.
  • Field Show video recording: recording the field shows from the upper deck on both sides of the stadium, centered on the 50-yard line, as well as recording close-up shots on the field amongst band members.
  • In-stands video recording: 2 quarters of Section 104 video recording.
  • Gameday candids recording: Capturing behind-the-scene moments such as bus rides, meals, Swag Surfing in the band room, the walk to the stadium, and the run through the tunnels before the pregame show.
  • Recording other performances: Coordinating coverage at events such as Farmington Country Club performance, Paint the Town Orange, Seven Stars Music Festival, and off-Grounds exhibition performances.
