About The Position

This position leads and supports the Catholic music program for the Holloman Air Force Base Chapel. The role involves providing instrumental accompaniment, directing singers and musicians, selecting music in coordination with Catholic clergy, and supporting Masses, Holy Days, seasonal programs, and memorial services. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or five years of experience in Catholic church music ministry, or related academic credentials.
  • Ability to read sheet music applicable to the instrument performed; piano or organ is preferred.
  • Successful audition demonstrating sight-reading and prepared performance appropriate to Mass.
  • References validating favorable past performance.
  • Fluent English and the ability to function in an interfaith, pluralistic environment.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to comply with, applicable Department of the Air Force 52-series instructions and 49th Wing Chapel Operating Instructions.
  • Ability to complete installation background-check, fingerprinting, identity-management, and CAC-access requirements, as applicable.
  • Ability to complete required Information Assurance Awareness and Total Force Awareness training.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Catholic music program and provide instrumental accompaniment for Mass and other liturgies.
  • Lead congregational songs, hymns, instrumentals, and Mass parts and direct the choir during worship.
  • Recruit, mentor, schedule, and coordinate choir members and musicians and encourage participation in the music ministry.
  • Plan and direct weekly rehearsals and additional rehearsals for Holy Days of Obligation and other liturgies as needed.
  • Coordinate music selections with the Catholic Chaplain or officiating priest and use approved resources consistent with Catholic liturgical directives.
  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before services to review the liturgy, conduct choir warm-up, complete sound checks, and address musical needs.
  • Prepare music and performers for Christmas, Easter, memorial, and other special or seasonal liturgies.
  • Participate in the Catholic Worship Service and Parish Advisory Council as required.
  • Safeguard, maintain, stow, and account for Government-owned music and sound equipment and promptly report damage or loss.
  • Coordinate facility, equipment, and support requests within established lead times and maintain the security, cleanliness, and religious neutrality of used facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
