About The Position

Performs the operation, maintenance, and application of cardiac catheterization, interventional, and electrophysiology procedures. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Maintains a current Ohio Nursing License. This role involves assisting with diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures, preparing and monitoring patients, administering medications, documenting care, educating patients and families, maintaining equipment, and upholding laboratory safety. The position also requires engagement in the workplace community through data collection, quality improvement initiatives, and representing staff at meetings. It includes working in accordance with on-call and scheduling requirements for the Catheterization and Electrophysiology Team. The position is 40 hours per week with an afterhours/weekend on-call requirement.

Requirements

  • BSN, required.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio, required.
  • BLS, required.
  • Must be able to handle high levels of stress in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to problem-solving situations while maintaining excellent interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to visually and audibly perform all essential functions of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • PALS and ACLS certifications required within 4 months of employment
  • One year of catheterization lab nurse or critical care experience, preferred.
  • Congenital heart disease experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures in compliance with protocols, policies, and guidelines.
  • Prepares patients for procedures, including allergy documentation.
  • Monitors patients' conditions during procedures, e.g. blood pressure and heart rate.
  • Administers drugs and blood products under the orders and supervision of a physician.
  • Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Educates patients and families on cardiac catheterization procedures and policies.
  • Maintains and cleans cardiac equipment and upholds laboratory safety.
  • Engages in the “workplace community” by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff.
  • Works in accordance with on-call and scheduling requirements for the Catheterization and Electrophysiology Team.
