About The Position

The Catering and Events Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing banquets, weddings, and other social or business events. This role oversees front-of-house food service and event staff, manages venue operations, and ensures exceptional guest experiences. The manager leads event execution with professionalism, collaborates across departments, and supports the continued success of MDC’s venue rental program.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years experience in food service required, management preferred
  • High school degree required
  • Two (2) years of experience in customer service, retail, event planning, or related field
  • Extensive knowledge of event planning, catering operations, and food hygiene standards
  • Ability to anticipate client needs and deliver high-quality event experiences
  • Strong leadership, managerial, and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with unexpected situations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management, Food Management, Hospitality, Meeting, and Event Planning or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversees front of house catering and event staff
  • Participates in recruitment of catering and events staff
  • Train, schedule, and support event staff to maintain consistent service standards
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless planning and execution of events
  • Oversee event setup and execution, including venue arrangement, food service, and adherence to sanitation standards
  • Supervise, train, and delegate tasks to catering and event staff, fostering a positive team environment
  • Assess staffing needs and make real-time decisions during events to ensure efficient operations
  • Lead on-site and off-site events, ensuring high standards of service and professionalism
  • Address and resolve client concerns, ensuring excellent customer service throughout the event lifecycle
  • Maintain accurate records of catering costs and report equipment or supply issues as needed
  • Participate in planning meetings and support continuous improvement of event operations
  • Train staff on systems and processes, including point-of-sale (POS) systems
  • Represent MDC with professionalism, cooperation, and respect in all interactions
  • Cover Catering and Event Staff duties during breaks or as needed for an event/shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
