About The Position

The Catalyst Design and Release Engineer supports development of gasoline aftertreatment systems (ATS) for future propulsion applications to meet emissions standards such as TIER4, California LEV IV, EURO7, China 7, and PL8. The work focuses on three-way advanced catalyst (TWC) technologies and gasoline particulate filters (GPFs), drawing on expertise in kinetics, reactor design, transport, and program management. The role spans ER&D and aftertreatment specification, supplier collaboration, calibration development, program launch, full useful life (FUL), and in-use issue resolution. Other proof-of-concept aftertreatment projects may be included depending on the successful applicant’s skills and background. The position is on-site at the Chrysler Technology Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and reports directly to the Calibration Engineering Lead, under the direction of the North America Engineering Manager for Emissions and Aftertreatment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry from an ABET-accredited university.
  • At least 3 years of experience in kinetics, reactor design, transport, and program management.
  • At least 1 year of demonstrated gasoline ATS development experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of chemistry and engineering principles.
  • Data-processing skills, especially for test-engine dynamometer and vehicle-emissions data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years of demonstrated gasoline ATS development experience.
  • In-depth understanding of advanced catalyst technologies, including substrates and catalyst washcoat design and coating, related to TWCs and GPFs for gasoline engines, including hardware, emissions calibration, diagnostics, controls, and modeling or simulation.
  • Ability to plan, test, analyze, and solve complex system problems across the propulsion system to meet objectives such as performance, emissions, backpressure, diagnostics, NVH, quality, and fuel economy.
  • Ability to apply project-management procedures and methodologies, including planning, scheduling, and reporting, to achieve deliverables; familiarity with tools such as MS Project and Excel.
  • Experience with automotive hardware supply chains.
  • Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) proactive engineering methods, including Design of Experiments (DoE).

Responsibilities

  • Work with supply chain and internal teams to facilitate the creation, sourcing, and coordination of ATS for propulsion calibration development.
  • Investigate innovative emissions-system technologies, including advanced catalyst technologies and optimized low-PGM solutions.
  • Develop ATS solutions for future vehicles that balance cost, performance, complexity, and other system trade-offs while meeting quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop requirements for catalyst component plant and control models, including catalyst and aging characterization.
  • Define and direct externally based technology-development projects with suppliers and partners to meet critical ATS needs.
  • Support quality-improvement efforts, share lessons learned from internal and post-production experience to prevent recurrence, and perform benchmarking analysis.
  • Lead or support production-development activities enabling vehicle launch, including ATS procurement, supplier interactions, PPAP, APQP, and aging.
