About The Position

First Chicago Insurance Company is seeking an experienced Casualty Claims Specialist to investigate and settle automobile bodily injury claims. The role handles complex liability claims requiring additional investigation and verification, including severe-injury claims that may involve extended disability or bodily injury, as well as coverage-related litigation. The specialist reviews assigned files and determines appropriate courses of action, conducts and documents investigations, processes bodily injury and coverage claims, and prepares evaluations for settlement authority. The position also involves working with third parties, plaintiff counsel, the Claim Director, and the Chief Operating Officer to determine investigation needs.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of casualty claims experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass written examinations required by state statutes to become a licensed claims adjuster.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

• Review each assigned file and determine a course of action using technical knowledge and experience to support final disposition of the loss.
• Conduct thorough investigations and maintain accurate, relevant documentation of claim activity, including coverage, liability status, and applicable damages.
• Process bodily injury and coverage claims in accordance with established office procedures.
• Work with third parties, plaintiff counsel, the Claim Director, and the Chief Operating Officer to determine necessary injury and coverage investigations.
• Research case law and statutory law to conduct proper claim investigations.
• Document policy status, coverage, liability, and damages on all claims, and notify the reinsurer on qualifying claims.
• Prepare and present claim evaluations for the appropriate settlement authority.
• Maintain reasonable expense factors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
