About The Position

Shriners Children’s Portland is looking for a full-time Cast Tech to join the team. This role provides assistance to the medical staff in the application, maintenance, and removal of casts, traction, and other splint or motion devices as ordered. The Cast Technician will also inform patients/families, staff, and students about the use and care of casts and traction devices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Orthopedic Cast Technician Program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate Medical Assistant
  • 1 year Orthopedic Technician experience
  • 1 year related work experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct and indirect patient care activities within the scope of practice of an Orthopedic Technician and the Outpatient Clinic (OPC) standards of care.
  • Performs casting and traction services under the direction and supervision of an Attending Orthopedic Surgeon.
  • Demonstrates open, accurate, and timely communication with patients/families and interdisciplinary team members to ensure effective therapeutic intervention.
  • Maintains competency, adheres to standards of practice, recognizes own learning needs to maximize professional development and optimal patient care.
  • Prepares patient for application of orthopedic devices, removes plaster/fiberglass as ordered by the physician.
  • Demonstrates competency in the application, removal, maintenance, and modifications of cast, splints, and traction.
