About The Position

Under the direction of the Golf Course Director, this position is responsible for opening the Golf Shop and greeting players, patrons, and the golfing public in person and over the telephone. This role involves managing the Golf Shop, handling customer interactions, processing transactions, maintaining inventory, and promoting the use of the City Golf Course.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Knowledge of purposes, methods, and practices of financial recordkeeping work.
  • Knowledge of electronic data processing methods.
  • Knowledge of office administration practices, concepts, and automation applications.
  • Knowledge of municipal code, directives, and procedures and of city services and operations.
  • Knowledge and principles of customer service and telephone etiquette.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software/program applications, e.g., spreadsheet and word processing applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial and numerical data and make recommendations based on that analysis to the Director of Golf.
  • Ability to handle cash.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic computations quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to make decisions on procedural policies and issues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, co-workers, city personnel, and other public or outside agencies.
  • Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to complete assignments accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Ability to think and act quickly, calmly, and accurately in emergency situations in accordance with departmental rules and regulations.
  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with multiple assignments.

  • Knowledge of the game of golf preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Opens and closes the Golf Shop.
  • Phones in course conditions with current date and tee time availability.
  • Keeps Golf Shop neat and clean.
  • Greets and interacts with customers (players, patrons) in a tactful courteous manner at all times whether in person or over the telephone.
  • Responds to public inquiries.
  • Checks in players, collects fees according to current resolution, and enters cash receipts to point-of-sale register or other cash register.
  • Reconciles cash collections to register and/or computer printout, via end-of-shift report.
  • Determines, calculates, and requests the appropriate materials, supplies, and equipment for assigned tasks.
  • Assists in projecting needs for equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Inputs information to PC computer maintaining a data base.
  • Operates handicap computer.
  • Receives, counts, sells, displays, and keeps merchandise inventory neat, clean, and attractively displayed.
  • Provides advice to supervisors concerning patron-desired merchandise and other Golf Shop services.
  • Assigns tee times; observes, coordinates, and reports on tee times scheduled with starter/ranger, cart attendants, and Head Cashier or Director of Golf.
  • Promotes the play of golf and the use of the City Golf Course by establishing and maintaining a pleasant and courteous attitude in dealings with patrons, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Enforces policies, procedures, rules, regulations and safety and health standards.
  • Provides information within scope of knowledge and position.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
