About The Position

The Cashier - Food Service will operate and be responsible for the contents of a computer-based cash register in a cafeteria setting. The role involves processing cash, credit, and gift card transactions; interacting effectively with customers; and maintaining accurate cash and sales records. Work hours may vary weekly depending on weather, holidays, and other factors, and the employee may sometimes need to work longer than the specified shift.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age; must be at least 18 to operate certain equipment.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to follow a series of safety protocols.
• Reliable transportation.
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers.
• Willingness to sometimes work longer than the specified shift.
• Ability to accept varied weekly work hours depending on weather, holidays, and other factors.
• Must be a respectful, safe, and team-oriented player.

Responsibilities

• Count and sign out a cash drawer at the start of the shift.
• Complete cash, credit, and gift card transactions efficiently.
• Assess currency and credit cards for signs of fraud.
• Greet customers and thank them for their business.
• Navigate the cash register computer program.
• Provide an accurate report of sales and discrepancies at the close of the shift.
• Monitor the use of employee discounts.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
