About The Position

The Cashier processes member purchases in a courteous and friendly manner, including verifying, renewing, and upgrading memberships; scanning merchandise; and accepting various forms of payment. The role provides efficient, productive service, maintains the cleanliness of the front-line department, and supports members at checkout and self-checkout. Team members are expected to follow club policies and procedures, contribute to a safe and inclusive environment, and deliver the club’s GOLD Member and Club Standards. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Requirements

• Basic math skills preferred.
• Prior cashier or sales experience preferred.
• Ability to frequently move about on hard surfaces and occasionally bend, handle, pull, reach, or stoop to examine or scan merchandise.
• Ability to frequently lift objects up to 50 pounds; heavier or awkward objects may need to be moved with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Explain BJ’s membership options and offer appropriate products, including renewals, EASY renewal, BJ’s Loyalty programs, and Rewards redemption.
• Provide excellent member service and check members out in a timely and efficient manner.
• Scan merchandise through the point-of-sale system to ensure accurate inventory counts and purchase totals.
• Fill shopping carts when needed and assist at self-checkout stations and scan-and-pan lanes.
• Collect cash, checks, or other charge payments and issue receipts or change.
• Stay current on merchandise promotions, advertisements, and product information; apply discounts by scanning and redeeming coupons.
• Maintain frontline cleanliness and assist with general club housekeeping when necessary.
• Return resellable merchandise to the sales floor.
• Assist members with self-checkout operations and technical difficulties.
• Meet cashier productivity expectations.
• Follow club policies and procedures and perform other assigned duties, including work in other departments as needed.
• Support a safe, positive, inclusive environment and address or escalate member concerns as appropriate.
• Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
