About The Position

The Cashier processes member purchases courteously and efficiently by verifying, renewing, and upgrading memberships; offering membership products; scanning merchandise; and accepting payments. The role provides excellent member service, maintains frontline cleanliness, and supports an efficient checkout experience, including self-checkout and scan-and-pan lanes. Cashiers are expected to follow club policies and procedures, meet productivity expectations, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and perform other duties as assigned, including work in other departments as needed.

Requirements

• Basic math skills preferred.
• Prior cashier or sales experience preferred.
• Ability to frequently move about on hard surfaces and occasionally bend, handle, pull, reach, or stoop to examine or scan merchandise.
• Ability to frequently lift objects up to 30 pounds; heavier or awkward items may need to be lifted or moved with assistance.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Responsibilities

• Explain BJ’s membership options and offer appropriate products, including renewals, EASY renewal, BJ’s Loyalty programs, and rewards redemption.
• Provide members with a high level of customer service and check them out promptly and efficiently.
• Scan merchandise through the point-of-sale system to ensure accurate inventory counts and purchase totals.
• Fill shopping carts when necessary and assist at self-checkout stations.
• Collect cash, checks, and other charge payments; issue receipts or change due.
• Stay current on merchandise promotions, advertisements, and product information; apply discounts by scanning and redeeming coupons.
• Maintain frontline cleanliness and assist with general club housekeeping when necessary.
• Return resellable merchandise to the sales floor.
• Manage self-checkout and scan-and-pan lanes and assist members with operational or technical difficulties.
• Meet cashier productivity expectations and follow club policies and procedures.
• Perform other assigned duties, including working in other departments as needed.
• Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
• Support a safe, positive, inclusive, and respectful environment; address or escalate member concerns as appropriate.
• Work with the team to maintain GOLD Member and club standards, including greeting members, keeping areas clean and organized, stocking items, executing promotional plans, and maintaining accurate signage.
• Understand how to access and read department production or financial performance reporting and how execution affects business results.
