About The Position

The Cashier processes member purchases in a courteous and friendly manner, including verifying, renewing, and upgrading memberships; offering membership products; scanning merchandise; and accepting payments. The role provides efficient, high-quality member service and maintains the cleanliness of the front-line department. Cashiers may assist at self-checkout stations, help with general club housekeeping, and work in other departments as needed. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Responsibilities

• Explain BJ’s membership options and the importance of renewals and upgrades to BJ’s Loyalty programs.
• Offer applicable membership products, including renewals, the EASY renewal option, BJ’s Loyalty programs, and Rewards redemption.
• Provide a high level of member service and check members out in a timely, efficient manner.
• Scan merchandise through the point-of-sale system to maintain accurate inventory counts and purchase totals.
• Fill shopping carts when necessary and assist at self-checkout stations.
• Collect payments by cash, check, or other charge payment methods, and issue receipts or change.
• Stay up to date on merchandise promotions, advertisements, and product information; apply discounts by scanning and redeeming coupons.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the front-line area and assist with general club housekeeping as needed.
• Return resellable merchandise to the sales floor.
• Manage self-checkout and scan-and-pan lanes, assisting members with operations and technical difficulties.
• Meet cashier productivity expectations.
• Follow club policies and procedures.
• Perform other assigned duties, including working in other departments as needed.
• Support the application of club policies, procedures, and compliance; act honestly and with integrity, address or escalate concerns, and help maintain a safe, positive, inclusive environment.
• Deliver service excellence and resolve or de-escalate member concerns.
• Meet daily GOLD Member Standards and club standards, including greeting, anticipating, and appreciating members; maintaining a fast, friendly, full, fresh, and clean experience; executing promotional plans; keeping signage accurate; and maintaining clean, organized areas.
• Understand how to access and read department production or financial performance reporting and how execution affects business results.
