About The Position

Canada's National Ballet School (NBS) is seeking a part-time contract Cashier to join their Food Services team at the Mona Campbell Square Café. This role is responsible for creating a welcoming café experience by serving food and beverages, processing transactions, and maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the café. The position is fast-paced and customer-focused, requiring the ability to balance multiple tasks in a collaborative environment. NBS is a leading arts and education institution with over 300 employees, fostering a creative and inclusive community.

Requirements

Grade 12 education or equivalent
Minimum 2 years' experience providing excellent customer service
Strong numerical, organizational, and basic computer skills
Confidence in handling cash and payment transactions accurately and efficiently
Ability to multitask, stay organized, and thrive in a fast-paced school and café environment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a friendly and professional approach
Comfortable interacting with school-aged children, students, staff, and guests
Knowledge of food service practices, food handling, and point of sale systems
Strong attention to detail and ability to problem-solve in a busy environment
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to jump in wherever needed to support the team

Nice To Haves

Previous experience operating cash registers and point of sale systems
Food Handler Certificate
Smart Serve Certification

Responsibilities

Help open and close café operations by stocking, replenishing, organizing, and preparing service areas throughout the day
Prepare and serve coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, salads, snacks, and beverages to students and customers
Operate the cash register and accurately process cash, debit, and credit transactions
Maintain transaction records, reconcile cash, and assist with preparing deposits
Provide friendly, efficient, and professional customer service while answering questions and supporting guests
Help maintain clean, organized, and sanitary café and dining areas by following food safety and sanitation best practices
Monitor café supplies and help ensure service areas remain stocked and organized during busy service periods
Follow health & safety procedures and support a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and guests
Balance multiple tasks throughout shifts, including customer service, restocking, cleaning, and cashier responsibilities
Jump in wherever needed to support the team and contribute to the success of the Food Services Department
Take on other duties as assigned
