About The Position

Accepting work-study and regular pay applicants for the Cashier position at the Upper DeBot Dining Center. This role provides a positive customer experience with fair, friendly, and courteous service. Responsibilities include registering sales, processing returns, resolving customer issues, and assisting with front-of-house duties when business is slow. The position requires managing transactions, ensuring accurate pricing, collecting payments, issuing receipts, and cross-selling products. Successful candidates will attend mandatory staff meetings and complete required trainings, including PCI Compliance and Information Security. Adherence to the University Dining Student Employment Handbook and department-specific policies is expected.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per week with at least two night/weekend shifts per month.
  • Have excellent math skills; specifically dealing with money and making change.
  • Be able to handle working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand on hard floors for an extended period of time.
  • All applicants must be at least a part-time student (enrolled in at least 6 undergraduate or 5 graduate credits) and be in good academic standing (cumulative and semester GPAs of 2.0 or higher).
  • Applicants must pass a criminal background check (only criminal activity directly pertaining to the position description will be evaluated.)
  • Successful applicants must pass all UWSP mandatory trainings along with department specific (food handling) trainings as part of their employment onboarding.
  • Upon the completion of the eight-week probationary period, the staff supervisor will conduct a performance evaluation with results impacting the students’ future.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a positive customer experience with fair, friendly, and courteous service.
  • Registers sales on a cash register by scanning items, itemizing and totaling customers’ purchases.
  • Resolves customers’ issues and answers questions.
  • Assists with front of house duties when business is slow at the register.
  • Processes return transactions.
  • Manages transactions with customers using cash register.
  • Scans goods and ensures pricing is accurate.
  • Collects payments whether in cash or card.
  • Issues receipts, refunds, or change.
  • Cross-sells products and introduces new merchandise items.
  • Answers customer questions and provides a professional experience for customers.
  • Follows proper reporting procedures if theft is observed.
  • Assists with front of house duties (cleaning tables, sweeping, checking/cleaning/refilling condiments and beverage stations) when business is slow at the register.
  • Attends mandatory staff meetings.
  • Completes University Dining Orientation and all mandatory trainings (including PCI (credit card) Compliance and Information Security training) upon hiring.
  • Is held accountable and abides to the policies outlined in the University Dining Student Employment Handbook and any department specific policies, procedures, and expectations.
