About The Position

Supervises the activities and procedures of various programs involving the interviewing and counseling of juveniles, parents and related social agencies. Conducts a review of cases to provide guidance to staff in casework planning and/or community organization activities. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and makes recommendations to improve performance. Prepares statistical reports and maintains quality assurance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology or related field
  • Five (5) years of case work experience
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
  • Knowledge of: Circuit Court – Juvenile Division policies, procedures, legal requirements, delinquency programs, and social case work policies and practices
  • Skill in: Investigating, interviewing and counseling practices, procedures and techniques
  • Skill in: Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work assignments of staff
  • Ability to: Supervise, direct and organize the work of others
  • Ability to: Deal effectively with difficult and/or emergency situations
  • Ability to: Work in an environment which embraces the county’s Dignity Campaign
  • Ability to: Effectively speak, write and understand the English language
  • Ability to: Understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions
  • Ability to: Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
  • Ability to: Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries
  • Ability to: Work independently

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Effectively speak, write and understand a language other than English is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assigns areas of responsibility and/or caseload of assigned staff.
  • Supervises, monitors, evaluates and coordinates the activities of assigned staff providing probation services.
  • Provides technical direction and guidance to staff and community organizations in casework planning.
  • Provides orientation and training to staff regarding Court policies and procedures.
  • Reviews case records with staff to ensure that legal papers, documents, and procedures have been properly followed.
  • Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures to improve services and processes.
  • Develops and implements quality assurance protocols and standards for the probation case management system and relevant databases.
  • Conducts regular audits of staff data entry practices to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Generates caseload statistical reports using the probation case management system.
  • Trains probation staff on proper data entry techniques and adherence to quality assurance standards.
  • Responds to inquiries of staff and the public as to Court procedures and policies.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of probation staff in their absence including preparing cases and maintaining appointments with clients as necessary.
  • Operates an automobile while performing assigned job duties.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
