About The Position

As a Case Worker for Social Service Programs, you will be expected to answer the phone, make appointments, take applications, conduct client interviews, and ensure accurate records are maintained for all aspects of the Social Service Programs. Complete intake procedures, assessments for services, and connect with other programs at The Salvation Army. Promote The Salvation Army’s other programs such as, but not limited to Food Pantry, Case Management, Utility Assistance, Meal Program, and Corps Ministry Programs. Working alongside the Social Services team to assist clients through various case management needs. This includes and is not limited to utility assistance, assistance referrals to other organizations, and emergency assistance inquiries.

Requirements

  • The employee must be 21 years old at a minimum (for insurance provision) and possess a valid in-state driver’s license
  • An MVR will be processed every year in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies
  • Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies
  • Ability to maneuver, to remain in a stationary position, to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead, to lift 25 pounds, to access and produce information from the computer, to operate a telephone, to understand written information
  • Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. A request to modify or adjust these requirements may be made to your supervisor and HR. The Salvation Army would attempt to satisfy requests if the accommodation needed is reasonable and presents no undue hardship.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in social work or related field preferred.
  • Experience in Social Services.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of the social services and resources available in Salt Lake City

Responsibilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, interns, volunteers, clients and other agency providers about the Social Service programs and requirements.
  • Ability to set priorities and organize case load.
  • Ability to communicate both in person, over phone, or e-mail about programs and assistances.
  • Ability to be fluent in every aspect of the day-to-day administrative duties, for example: phones, copy machine, computer, e-mail, web-based database systems, and fax machine knowledge.
  • Work with Social Service team to suggest and implement strategies that will maximize the program effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of Utility Programs and Social Service programs within the state of Utah (will be trained)
  • Time Management skills.
  • Must respect cultural, social, and racial differences.
  • Effective stress coping skills, and patience with clients to conduct interviews.
