About The Position

The Behavioral Health Technician increases rapport with clients through trauma-informed practices to create a safe, welcoming environment that will offer stabilization, encourage self-sufficiency, independence, and offer basic services and support to move toward a healthier lifestyle. Requirements

  • A degree in the field of social services and two years’ experience in working in the substance abuse treatment services field or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, including but not limited to:
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience working with mental health/substance abuse programs.
  • Must be able to qualify and pass Utah Department of Human Services Case Management Certification within 60 days of being hired.
  • Familiarity with Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing and Housing First philosophies and willingness to incorporate them in your daily work.
  • Ability to utilize Trauma Informed practices to act and make sound decisions within the scope of position responsibilities as well as reach out for supervision for major situations.
  • Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures, and interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.
  • Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
  • Become CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • If driving is a part of the job, must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver’s license, have a good driving record, and be insurable on the agency liability policy.
  • Must be able to pass Utah-DHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and assess client need and resources by doing a case management needs assessment within 48 hours of admission.
  • Coordinate with the treatment team in developing treatment plans and goals consistent with client needs.
  • Facilitate groups as assigned including life skills, coping skills, and community groups.
  • Maintain client records to ensure all paperwork is completed as required.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Develop positive relationships with referral resources.
  • Assist in arranging client appointments and transportation. Transport clients as needed as per agency policy.
  • Proactively involve and communicate with collateral support, including family, significant others, probation officers, judges, caseworkers, and others.
  • Document all incidents immediately and report as required.
  • Take primary responsibility for ensuring client Medicaid applications and address changes are completed in a timely manner. Assisting clients in maintaining their benefits status.
  • Partner with the therapist and treatment team to create disposition and exit plans that prioritize ongoing safety and stabilization for each client.
  • Take primary responsibility for ensuring clients are meeting legal obligations.
  • Participate and present client information at clinical staffing meetings.
  • Document all case management and group services provided to clients on the same day of service.
  • Contribute to an environment of mutual trust and respect by treating others fairly, demonstrating empathy, and effectively managing interpersonal conflict to preserve constructive, professional relationships.
  • Participate in Management On-Call Schedule
  • Maintain appropriate, professional boundaries with clients, volunteers, and co-workers.
  • Punctual and attends work on a regular and predictable basis.
  • Understand and adhere to 42 CFR pt. 2 Federal Confidentiality and HIPAA laws.
  • Proactively expand and integrate knowledge of community resources.
  • Act and make decisions within the position’s scope of responsibility.
  • Can attend and participate in meetings and training at multiple locations.
  • Learn, utilize, and endorse agency selected clinical techniques, including Critical Time Intervention practices and Trauma Informed practices.
  • Perform other functions as necessary or assigned.
