About The Position

This position is responsible for assessing and determining eligibility for a variety of in-home services that would benefit individuals at risk of having to leave their own homes and providing information and referral services to the public and family members about aging and community resources. The South Dakota Department of Human Services encompasses a broad field dedicated to offering services that support older adults and individuals with disabilities. Requirements

  • Applicant may have any combination of training and/or experience that enables the incumbent to possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the required job duties.
  • Knowledge of basic theories, principles, and methods of social work and methods of assessment, intervention, and treatment.
  • Knowledge of concepts related to clients' rights, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of conducting interviews and acquiring information from clients who are in need of services.
  • Knowledge of cultural, economic, physical, social, and psychological factors that influence family dynamics and interpersonal relationships.
  • Skill to work with computerized data systems.
  • Skill to maintain case records and documentation.
  • Skill to prepare reports and compose correspondence.
  • Skill to gather and analyze data, reason logically and accurately, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Skill to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely with a variety of individuals, professionals, and the public.
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with clients, their families, and other social service personnel, public officials, and private citizens.
