About The Position

The Medical Division of the New York City Police Department is responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of all members of the service. Case Management Nurses play a crucial role in this mission by consulting with private physicians of members, conducting in-depth interviews to evaluate treatment plans, and following up with hospitals to monitor care quality and ensure timely return to duty. They also serve as health care educational resources and provide counseling to promote physical and emotional well-being, thereby reducing absenteeism.

Requirements

  • A valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse.
  • A baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college, and three years of clinical nursing experience; OR
  • An associate degree in nursing from an accredited college, and five years of clinical nursing experience; OR
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
  • All candidates must have a valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse.

Nice To Haves

  • To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements listed above, at least one additional year of clinical nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with private physicians of members of the service.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with members to evaluate treatment plans.
  • Conduct follow-ups with hospitals where members have been admitted for emergency care, surgery, etc.
  • Monitor the quality of care provided to members in hospitals.
  • Ensure the member is returned to duty as soon as medically indicated.
  • Act as health care educational resource people for Department members and their families.
  • Provide counseling to encourage health care practices that promote physical and emotional well-being.
  • Reduce absenteeism among Department members.
