About The Position

The YWCA Greater Lafayette's Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program (DVIPP) provides critical support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of violence. This is a hands-on advocacy role that combines crisis intervention, client support, legal advocacy, and community collaboration. Advocates help individuals and families move from crisis toward safety, stability, and hope. This role requires independence, flexibility, and the ability to respond professionally when situations change quickly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent experience working in advocacy, crisis response, or human services may be considered
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and survivor-centered advocacy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to manage stressful or crisis situations with professionalism and sound judgment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with community resources and victim service systems preferred
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a larger team
  • Commitment to ongoing learning, including required continuing education units (CEUs)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • Criminal background check and fingerprint check required

Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, emotional support, and safety planning for survivors
  • Assist clients with accessing emergency shelter, housing resources, counseling, employment services, and community support programs
  • Support survivors through protective orders, court hearings, and legal advocacy processes
  • Coordinate services with community partners including law enforcement, healthcare providers, social service agencies, and other support organizations
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records and program documentation
  • Participate in community outreach, education, and awareness efforts related to domestic violence and survivor support
  • Attend and advocate alongside survivors during civil, family, and criminal court proceedings
  • Support the training and development of interns and volunteers
  • Participate in staff meetings, team collaboration, and ongoing professional development
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards at all times
  • Participate in crisis line coverage, emergency shelter support, and on-call rotation as assigned
