About The Position

If you enjoy Geographic Information System (GIS), geography and challenging research, we have an excellent opportunity for you! We’re looking for a Cartographer / GIS Specialist 1 or 2 to join our Assessment and Taxation Department. This position will be involved in a variety of activities associated with property ownership, boundaries, valuation and taxation. Primary responsibilities include: Keep the County’s tax lot layer updated as properties are developed and adjusted. Perform GIS data maintenance and analysis. Research and resolve ambiguities and conflicts using legal descriptions, survey data, document descriptions, and court records. Maintain and update taxing district boundaries as a result of annexations. As subject matter experts, communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders. About the Division The purpose of Assessment and Taxation is to appraise property, to calculate, collect and distribute taxes, and to provide related information to the public in a manner that merits the highest degree of confidence in our integrity, efficiency, and fairness. We are a broad service organization mandated by the Oregon Constitution and Oregon law and collect revenue for 85 taxing jurisdictions, including local governments, schools, and special districts that provide essential public services for the citizens of Lane County.

Requirements

  • Associates degree with major course work in computer science, geography, surveying, engineering, or a related field.
  • Two years’ experience working with survey mapping or geographic information systems (for Specialist 1).
  • Four years’ experience working with survey mapping or geographic information systems (for Specialist 2).
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job is qualifying.
