About The Position

New Energy Works is seeking an experienced Carpenter to join our team in Farmington, NY. This is a hands-on, high-craft position working on unique custom homes and structures that combine exceptional craftsmanship, thoughtful design, advanced building systems, and natural materials. Our carpenters work across a variety of construction environments, including custom home construction, heavy timber framing, high-performance enclosure systems, shop fabrication, and field installation. Depending on experience, skills, and project needs, you may spend time in our shop fabricating components and materials or on-site installing and building them. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their craft, understands that quality matters, and is motivated to continually develop their skills. The ideal candidate is dependable, collaborative, resourceful, and comfortable solving problems in both a shop and jobsite environment.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of carpentry or construction experience, or equivalent demonstrated skills.
  • Working knowledge of common carpentry practices, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and details.
  • Solid math, measurement, and layout skills.
  • Ability to safely use standard hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to take initiative.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites, including occasional overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of residential and commercial carpentry tasks associated with high-craft custom construction.
  • Frame floors, walls, roofs, and other structural components using wood and advanced building systems.
  • Perform finish and general carpentry work with an emphasis on quality, precision, and craftsmanship.
  • Install wood products, finished materials, trim, and other architectural components.
  • Work with a variety of natural and high-quality building materials.
  • Interpret construction documents, architectural drawings, fabrication drawings, and project details.
  • Perform accurate layout, measurement, cutting, fitting, fastening, and assembly.
  • Work independently on assigned tasks while coordinating effectively with the broader project team.
  • Participate in the fabrication and installation of heavy timber structures and components.
  • Perform timber layout, cutting, fitting, joinery, assembly, and installation as skills and experience allow.
  • Safely use portable and stationary woodworking and construction equipment.
  • Assist with timber frame raising and installation activities on job sites.
  • Work with traditional and contemporary timber framing techniques as applicable to project requirements.
  • Fabricate and assemble high-performance wall, roof, and floor panels in our Farmington, NY shop.
  • Participate in the installation of enclosure systems and building components in the field.
  • Work with building envelope, insulation, air-sealing, and other high-performance building systems.
  • Read and interpret fabrication and installation drawings to accurately construct and install components.
  • Maintain quality and attention to detail throughout both fabrication and installation processes.
  • Work both in the shop and on active construction sites depending on project requirements.
  • Prepare materials and components for field installation.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, stationary equipment, and other construction equipment.
  • Maintain and properly care for company tools, vehicles, equipment, and work areas.
  • Assist with material handling, staging, loading, and unloading as necessary.
  • Travel to project sites, including occasional overnight travel, as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop and jobsite.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and established best practices.
  • Identify and communicate potential safety, quality, material, or scheduling issues.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, designers, foremen, subcontractors, and fellow craftspeople.
  • Contribute ideas and practical solutions to improve projects, processes, and team performance.
  • Take responsibility for the quality and completeness of assigned work.
  • Represent New Energy Works professionally when working with clients, subcontractors, and project partners.
