About The Position

Durable Restoration specializes in the preservation and restoration of historic buildings and landmarks. We work on churches, government buildings, universities, museums, and some private residences—helping our clients preserve the character and craftsmanship of their buildings for generations to come. We take pride in high-quality craftsmanship, excellent service, and doing the job right. We are looking for a Historic Carpenter to join our restoration team. You’ll work alongside our foremen and other skilled craftsmen to repair, restore, and preserve historic woodwork and architectural elements. We’re looking for someone with 2+ years of carpentry experience, ideally with some experience in historic restoration. However, we recognize that historic carpentry is a specialized trade, and we provide paid training to help you develop the skills needed for the work.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of carpentry experience
  • Experience with general framing and finish carpentry
  • Ability to read drawings and work from existing conditions
  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, fit, and install wood materials
  • Basic understanding of structural wood repair
  • Attention to detail and respect for historic materials
  • Ability to safely remove, repair, and reinstall historic woodwork, windows, and doors
  • Willingness to learn specialized restoration techniques, including wood repair, window restoration, glazing, and coatings
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the project foreman
  • Ability to work at heights and outdoors in different seasons
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Random drug screening may be required during employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience in historic restoration
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license

Responsibilities
