About The Position

Under general supervision, the Carpenter is responsible for skilled carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of department facilities. This role requires precision, creativity, and the ability to work on projects ranging from custom cabinetry to structural frameworks. The Carpenter will collaborate with team members to meet project specifications and deadlines while ensuring quality craftsmanship and adherence to safety standards.

Requirements

  • Four (4) to five (5) years' experience in carpentry to include foundation work, framing, finish carpentry, and roofing.
  • Completion of a carpentry vocational/technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license (Texas by hire date) and a good driving record.
  • Skilled in all phases of carpentry techniques, materials, methods of installation and construction.
  • Proficient in multi-tasking to meet deadlines provided.
  • Ability to work well at all levels of management, staff and public.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Knowledgeable of principles, methods, practices, materials, equipment and tools for building repairs and maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a carpentry vocational/technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution preferred.
  • Education can be substituted for work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Builds, installs, and repairs structural woodwork, flooring, ceilings and cabinets, and other structures.
  • Plans projects as requested and ensures manpower, materials and equipment needs are met.
  • Documents all work performed.
  • Operates, maintains, and calibrates hand and power carpentry tools.
  • Reads and comprehends plans and blueprints.
  • Handles administrative work (receiving reports, job sheets, etc.) as needed.
  • Complies with federal regulations governing safety, environmental protection and the use of chemicals and materials common to carpentry.
  • Drives and operates all types of construction equipment as assigned (bucket truck, forklift, front end loader, bob cat, backhoe, one man lift, multi-person lift, ditching machine, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
