About The Position

The City of Everett is accepting applications for the Civil Service examination process for PUBLIC WORKS DISPATCHER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT. This is responsible work providing routine and emergent dispatching services in the Public Works Department. Employees in this classification are responsible for maintaining uninterrupted communication and dispatching services on an ongoing basis at various locations in the Public Works Department. The work involves responsibility for establishing contact with field personnel, serving as the primary contact for the general public, documenting reported complaints and routing to the appropriate work group. Additional duties include general office and warehouse support work, such as maintaining logs, updating contact lists, and ensuring timely updates on utility service interruptions, adverse traffic events, construction-related closures and weather phenomena. The work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and on the basis of service, results achieved, and other established performance evaluation criteria.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalency.
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience in communication, scheduling, or dispatch-related duties.
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver license at the date of hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates knowledge of public works infrastructure.
