About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Senior Carpenter provides skilled craftsmanship as a journeyman carpenter. The role performs construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance work on new and existing buildings and their components, including floors, roofs, walls, stairways, doors, windows, cabinets, ceiling tiles, restroom partitions, and other structures. The carpenter locates and repairs leaks and transitions, maintains records of repairs and their locations, operates and maintains tools and equipment, and estimates job time and materials. The role may assist other trades, including plumbing and electrical, and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair.
Ability to install and repair, and to select appropriate equipment to complete the job.
Knowledge of repairing VCT or ceramic floor tiles and industrial roof repairs.
Knowledge of the installation, waterproofing, repair, and maintenance of sheet metal or lead flashing.
Extensive knowledge of the operation and care of associated large and small power equipment and hand tools.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to read blueprints correctly.
Ability to comply with safety and environmental guidelines.

Responsibilities

Perform skilled carpentry work in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of new and existing buildings and structures.
Work on floors, including tile, ceramic, and VCT; roofs; walls; stairways; doors; windows; cabinets; ceiling tiles; and restroom partitions.
Locate, seal, and repair leaks and transitions, and maintain records of repairs and their locations.
Operate power saws, planers, jointers, hand tools, and other equipment.
Select wood, cut it to size, and sand surfaces.
Clean, sharpen, and repair hand tools, bench tools, saws, and other equipment.
Oil machines and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
Estimate the time and materials required for a job.
Assist other trades as needed, such as plumbing and electrical.
Perform other duties as assigned.
