About The Position

The Carpenter Lead is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, repair, and alteration of building structures and facilities, utilizing established procedures and techniques of the carpentry trade. This position provides day-to-day guidance, direction, and support to the carpentry team to ensure quality workmanship, safe practices, and timely completion of assignments. The Carpenter Lead also assists with planning, assigning, and reviewing work, and assumes shop management responsibilities in the absence of the Shop Manager to ensure continuity of operations. Additional responsibilities include practicing preventive maintenance of carpentry tools and equipment, complying with federal safety and environmental regulations, properly handling hazardous materials, and ensuring work and repairs are completed in accordance with work orders or verbal instructions.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license which must be maintained during employment.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of carpentry methods and practices typically obtained through completion of at least 18 months of technical or vocational education beyond high school.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal building codes.
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrates requirements of safety and exhibits good safety habits.
  • Good hand and eye coordination.
  • Understands and demonstrates proper and safe operation of tools and machinery.
  • Demonstrates quality of making sure that jobs are properly completed on schedule.
  • Ability to independently complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding Safety Data Sheet ( SDS ) requirements and is familiar with location and use of SDS information.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
  • Able to work in inclement weather conditions. And in hot or cold environments.
  • Ability to read, follow and interpret safety rules and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the carpentry trade.
  • Physically agile and dexterous.
  • Understands the need for urgency with ability to prioritize.
  • Relates to officials, staff and public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintains a calm demeanor in pressure situations.
  • Assumes responsibilities for actions.
  • Exhibit a professional work ethic.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Responsibilities

  • Working safely off ladders, scaffolding, and various man lifts.
