About The Position

The Carpenter I is responsible for building and assembling wooden crates, skids, pallets, and other custom packaging solutions in support of DGM’s warehouse and packing operations. This entry-level carpentry role focuses on quality workmanship, safety, and efficiency while meeting DGM standards and customer requirements. The Carpenter I, works collaboratively with packing and warehouse teams and performs assigned tasks under general supervision.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in carpentry, crate building, warehouse operations, or a related field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Forklift 12k and pallet jack experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic measurements, crate dimensions, and packing instructions.
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools commonly used in carpentry, including saws, drills, nail guns, and staple guns.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and apply basic math skills.
  • Understanding of basic lumber types, material selection, and structural support concepts.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and written procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to coordinate with packing and warehouse staff.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on safety, quality, and productivity demands.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks within assigned deadlines.
  • Dependable, punctual, and reliable work habits.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new tools, processes, and packaging requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and construct wooden crates, skids, pallets, and other specialized packaging.
  • Measure, cut, and prepare lumber to required specifications using hand and power tools.
  • Read and follow basic crate drawings, measurements, and packing instructions.
  • Install internal crate components such as blocking, bracing, runners, or supports to ensure freight stability.
  • Select and inspect wood materials to ensure they are clean, compliant, and suitable for use.
  • Apply required heat stamps and markings to finished crates in accordance with export and compliance requirements.
  • Inspect completed crates to verify structural integrity, accuracy of dimensions, and readiness for packing.
  • Coordinate with packing agents and warehouse staff to ensure crates are built on time and ready for packing operations.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools, including nail guns, staple guns, saws, and drills.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company property in good working condition.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the Warehouse Lead or Supervisor.
