About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Carpenter General Range Technician in the Williamsburg area of Virginia. The technician will be providing technical support for the operations and maintenance of military firing range. This position is ideal for an experienced trades professional whose primary expertise is carpentry, with working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other general maintenance disciplines. The selected candidate will perform a wide variety of construction, repair, renovation and preventative maintenance tasks to ensure facilities, range structures, and associated equipment remain safe, operational, and mission ready. As part of a small, multi-skilled maintenance team, this individual will support daily operations across multiple trades and respond to ability maintenance requirements as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Active government security clearance at the time of application.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial or industrial carpentry, construction, facility maintenance, or general building trades.
  • Ability to read blueprints, construction drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building maintenance.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment common to multiple trades.
  • Ability to troubleshoot facility maintenance issues and complete repairs efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, lift up to 50 pounds, and work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of NEC code required.
  • Knowledge and experience working with voltages up to 480 V.
  • Skilled in use of tools common to the trade including electric meters and hand held powered tools.
  • Basic decision-making skills; uses independent judgment.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders to include extension ladders repetitively during the shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman Carpenter or equivalent construction experience.
  • Electrical Journeyman License (any state).
  • Experience supporting military installations, industrial facilities, or government contracts.
  • Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, aerial lifts, or other heavy equipment.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Additional certifications in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, welding, or other skilled trades are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of carpentry work including framing, finish carpentry, drywall installation and repair, flooring, roofing, doors, windows, cabinetry, fencing, concrete formwork, and general structural repairs.
  • Construct, repair, and maintain range structures, training facilities, buildings, and other mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, sketches, and technical manuals.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on facilities and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and complete general maintenance tasks involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, welding, and other building systems.
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems including lighting, outlets, switches, motors, conduit, and associated controls.
  • Support plumbing repairs including fixtures, valves, piping, and drainage systems.
  • Perform minor HVAC maintenance, including replacing motors, belts, filters, relays, contactors, wiring, and related components.
  • Operate forklifts, skid steers, aerial lifts, and other equipment as required (training and certifications are a plus).
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.
  • Prepare estimates for labor, materials, and equipment required for assigned projects.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and request supplies as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between Range Operations, Base Operations & Maintenance, and other stakeholders to coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while effectively collaborating with a multidisciplinary maintenance team.
  • Performs all facets of electrical installations.
  • Troubleshoots equipment for electrical issues to prevent malfunctions and/or identify opportunities for improvements.
  • Ability to research, learn and provide creative technical recommendations in providing power and/or controls to novel systems and various power sources.
  • Maintain and repair as needed all indoor / outdoor lighting systems to include all associated controls and to maintain and repair electrical distribution system in base buildings.
  • Repair and replace as needed motors, contacts, relays, motor starters, and motor sheaves, wiring as it pertains to HVAC equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance for electrical fixtures.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks necessary for repair at the property.
  • Responds to maintenance calls, troubleshooting and repairing issues.
  • Runs new power/cables, and performs project work for the assigned customer.
  • Prepares estimates, man hours, materials used and orders items needed for job completion or inventory replacement per established procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
