About The Position

The General Carpenter II performs rough and finish carpentry tasks in support of commercial construction projects with a higher degree of independence, working under the general direction of a foreman or superintendent. This is a mid-level field position for an experienced carpenter capable of executing more complex layout and installation work with minimal supervision, maintaining consistent quality, and providing guidance to less experienced carpenters and laborers on site.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years of carpentry or commercial construction field experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of hand and power tools, and layout/measurement techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications independently.
  • Experience with both rough and finish carpentry on commercial projects.
  • OSHA 10 certification required
  • Demonstrated ability to guide or mentor less experienced carpenters and laborers.
  • Reliable transportation to assigned jobsites.

  • Trade school or apprenticeship training a plus
  • OSHA 30 a plus

Responsibilities

  • Independently read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine layout, sequencing, and material needs.
  • Measure, mark, cut, and shape wood, plywood, and other materials with precision using hand and power tools.
  • Perform rough carpentry tasks including framing, blocking, and concrete formwork, including more complex layouts (e.g., elevated slabs, curved or non-standard forms).
  • Perform finish carpentry tasks such as installing trim, doors, hardware, and ceiling grid systems, ensuring a high standard of fit and finish.
  • Take ownership of assigned scopes of work, coordinating sequencing with other trades where needed.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment associated with carpentry work.
  • Assist with the loading, unloading, and staging of materials on site.
  • Build and install temporary structures such as barricades, protection, and site signage as directed.
  • Maintain, clean, and properly store tools and equipment; keep assigned work areas clean and organized.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations; wear required PPE at all times on site.
  • Perform work in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Report unsafe conditions, damaged tools/equipment, or quality concerns to the foreman or superintendent.
  • Work collaboratively with foremen, superintendents, other trades, and subcontractors on site.
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and quality checks for General Carpenter I staff, apprentices, and laborers.
  • Help troubleshoot layout, sequencing, or quality issues in the field and recommend solutions to the foreman.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
