About The Position

The Carpenter General Foreman is responsible for overseeing and directing the work of carpentry crews to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality construction. This role involves interpreting blueprints, managing work scope and priorities, coordinating with other crafts, and enforcing work and safety rules. The General Foreman also plays a key role in employee development through feedback and coaching, and is responsible for accurate reporting and work preplanning.

Requirements

  • 8 years of industrial construction experience.
  • 4 years in supervisory roles.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Understanding of job specifications.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel job procedures and work rules.
  • Ability to understand work scope and integrate project priorities.
  • Knowledge of other craft disciplines for work coordination.
  • Ability to administer and enforce work and safety rules.
  • Ability to provide guidance to foremen.
  • Ability to ensure foremen are effectively supervising work crews.
  • Ability to understand work priorities and schedules and assign work plans.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop action plans.
  • Ability to initiate coordination with other disciplines.
  • Responsibility for the quality of work performed.
  • Ability to ensure accurate reports are submitted.
  • Ability to ensure crews understand assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safe work observations and provide feedback on employee behavior to achieve safety objectives.
  • Interpret blueprints, understand job specifications, and implement procedures and work rules.
  • Understand work scope and integrate project priorities.
  • Instruct journeymen in specific craft tasks, including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Coordinate work between different craft disciplines.
  • Administer and enforce work and safety rules fairly and consistently.
  • Provide timely guidance to foremen to prevent work stoppages.
  • Ensure foremen are effectively supervising work crews.
  • Understand work priorities and schedules, and assign work plans.
  • Identify problems and develop action plans for resolution with minimal disruption.
  • Initiate coordination with other disciplines to prevent scheduling conflicts.
  • Ensure the quality of work performed by supervised crafts.
  • Ensure accurate reports are submitted regarding time sheets, backcharges, quantity, and work status.
  • Ensure foremen and crews understand assignments and directions before work commences.
  • Participate in the free exchange of ideas.
  • Administer praise and discipline consistently and fairly, initiating corrective action when required.
  • Conduct work preplanning by providing input at weekly scheduling meetings.
  • Monitor work progress and report impending schedule problems to supervision.
