About The Position

At Life Without Barriers, we deliver inclusive, trauma-informed services that support children, young people, families, and carers to thrive. From foster care, family support, residential care and youth programs, we work alongside communities to create safe, supportive environments where every child and young person can reach their potential. As a Carer Ambassador, you'll play an important role in raising awareness of foster care within your local community and encouraging more people to explore becoming foster carers with Life Without Barriers. As one of the first points of contact for prospective carers, you'll create a warm, welcoming, and positive first impression of Life Without Barriers and our approach to foster care. Through genuine conversations and community engagement, you'll help potential carers reflect on what fostering involves, encouraging thoughtful consideration of how the role may impact their lives, families, and relationships. Your support will empower people to make informed decisions about whether fostering is the right journey for them.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years fostering experience and 1 year with LWB
  • Exceptional fostering reputation
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining good community connections
  • Additional time to commit to the role outside of commitment to children and young people in your care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals, families or groups from strengths based culturally appropriate perspective
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and to deliver high quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and any relevant stated based checks.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, plan and attend public events (as identified in the local Carer Recruitment & Retention Plan) and speak to the general public about what foster care involves and the need for foster carers within their community
  • Identify key community groups to engage with
  • Identify, with the local care team, key community groups or networks that match our carer target group
  • Promote our services to various community clubs and groups by conducting presentations or developing relationships. This would include contacting people in our targeted recruitment group which could be through local high schools, sporting groups, hospitals, disability services and community networks.
  • Seek opportunities to partner with local groups, businesses and councils in your area.
  • Where required, represent LWB in the local media (Radio, Print, TV, social media)
  • Talk (via phone, email, webchat) to people seriously considering foster care as identified through the Central Enquiry Team.
  • Work alongside the local care team to support enquirers to make the right decision about whether they should pursue fostering
